OpenClaw
An open-source AI assistant that lives in the chat apps you already use
OpenClaw is a personal AI assistant that runs on your own computer and meets you inside your existing messaging apps, including Discord, iMessage, Slack, Teams, Telegram, WhatsApp and more than twenty others. It also ships native apps for macOS, iOS, Android, Windows and Linux.
How it works
A single Gateway process does the work. Run it on a laptop as a personal assistant or deploy it as a shared team assistant; the project says the setup is the same and only the configuration changes. Memory, state and credentials stay on hardware you control.
Highlights
- Swap models freely: agent harnesses and models such as Claude, Codex or local models are plugins you can change without rebuilding anything.
- Privacy-minded defaults: by default it contacts the outside world only for a daily version check, and anonymous usage statistics are opt-in.
- Independent stewardship: the project is run by the OpenClaw Foundation, a non-profit, with no paid tier, hosted service or token.
Getting started
An installer script covers macOS, Linux (including WSL2) and Windows PowerShell, and sets up a supported Node.js runtime when needed. Docker files are also included for container deployments.
